WHAT TO EXPECT
Consultation
After an initial phone conversation, I will email parent and student questionnaires, which will be filled out and returned to me via email or brought to the consultation. The parents, student and I will have a consultation at a mutually agreeable time and place (usually at the student’s home). The consultation usually lasts about two hours, during which we will discuss the information in the packet that I will email to you.
Editing
Students will email me a rough draft of each essay, which I will edit by making suggestions concerning content, organization, wording, grammar and spelling. For most students this includes the following:
-The 650-word essay for the Common App
-The 400-word essay for the Coalition
-The 2-5 supplementary essays required by top colleges
-All the answers to the Common App questions
-The student’s resume
Student Planning Sessions
We will set up a 30-60 minute planning session each month until the summer before the senior year when the student and I will have weekly planning sessions. We will set goals of what needs to be accomplished each month or week before the next planning session. This eliminates procrastination and allows all tasks to be accomplished in a timely and competent manner.
Long Distance
Since my business is remote, it does not matter where you live in the United States. I have a Go To Meeting account which I can send you the link for so that we can see each other and talk, sharing information at the consultation. Follow-up planning sessions are always done by phone unless the parents request another Go To Meeting session, which can be easily arranged. Anything the student sends to me, such as an essay or a resume will be sent as attachments to emails.
Coaching for College Interviews
Many colleges strongly recommend that students have an individual interview. Having served on the interview committee for Duke University for over twenty years, I am very familiar with the questions which will be asked. We can have a mock interview during which I can coach the student on the best responses to the questions.
